Can crystals heal? Healing crystals.

Do Healing Crystals Work?

Healing Crystals - Do They Work?

And is it for me? These are fair and common questions so let’s delve in.

The Celebrity Endorsements

You may have heard about crystal therapy recently because of articles on celebrities’ experiences. Katy Perry in a Cosmopolitan magazine interview in 2014 attributed the fact she doesn’t stay single very long to carrying around rose quartz. Adele credits carrying crystals to overcoming her stage fright. During her second Grammys performance, she lost her crystals and she says this resulted in a technical glitch with the microphone which disrupted and affected her performance. Jennifer Lawrence was an ardent anti-crystal person. She moved into a new place which had crystals in the walls and she asked someone to tear them out and sell them. Shortly after, her place completely flooded!

All these stories are all very well and good, but what about the rest of us? Where is the evidence?

What Scientific Evidence Is There?

Crystals are great conductors of energy and are used in microphones and lasers due to their electrical properties. The University of Southampton has found that you can store data in crystals that will be safe for billions of years. Small 5D crystal discs can store 360 terabytes on them, that’s equivalent to 22,500 basic iPhones!

International research laboratory Institute Hagalis in Switzerland tested how water reacts when exposed to crystals and they found that crystals improved water’s quality, neutralised harmful substances, improved PH balance, improved oxygen content and bioavailability of minerals. Why is this important? The human body is 60% made up of water, so by extension, we know it then must have an effect on us too.

Crystals have been used for thousands of years in the East to heal, including India and China. Western medicine has not conducted enough studies on crystal healing and there is no Western study to support their effectiveness as of yet.

Western medicine is still exploring and playing catch up on Eastern therapies. For example, for years doctors have looked at acupuncture with suspicion, which is based on Chinese medicine. It has taken doctors decades to finally agree that there is level one evidence (the highest level of scientific supportive evidence) for acupuncture treating and relieving various medical, pain and musculoskeletal conditions. Only recently, have there been many studies on Chinese medicine in US universities that have also proven their effectiveness in treating various medical conditions. Yoga was not looked at seriously in the West either until maybe in the last 10 years. The West just takes time to catch up sometimes. Or a given topic finally gets enough interest to fully study it. It was only in 2018 that a study confirmed dogs can read and understand people’s expressions but any dog owner through the centuries could have told you that. What elements affect us is already well documented. Ask anyone who works in a hospital and they’ll tell you that the accident and emergency department has more patients during a full moon.

So let’s go back to the sources in Indian and Chinese medicine to get an understanding of how crystals work.

Indian and Chinese Medicine - Do Healing Crystals Work? Yes!

Indian medicine believes that your body has seven main chakra points, or energy centres, which are invisible energy wheels that keep us healthy. These chakras - root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, brow, and crown - start from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head. Each of these energy centres contains heaps of nerves and organs, so it is important to make sure these energy centres do not get blocked and are always fluid and moving. As crystals carry energy, they can align with a specific chakra to help that area and issue. For example, the sacral chakra, the source of creativity, aligns with yellow stones such as citrine.

Chinese medicine looks at the body according to energy pathways, or jing luo. There are 12 main meridians that run through the human body, which is linked to an organ. Each part of the day is split into segments of 2-hour energies, so a different period of the day will correspond to when a specific organ is at its strongest. For example, 7 am-9 am for the stomach, 11 am to 1 pm for the heart and 7 pm to 9 pm for circulation (linked to sex as well). Tracing corresponding crystals along meridian lines, to their specific timings, can help re-balance our chi (energy).

Pranic healing, an energy healing medicine, also uses crystals for healing. Do you need to study all of this to get everything out of your crystals? You certainly can, but having a crystal on hand and even near you will be of benefit.

Does Placement Make A Difference?

Wherever you think it will be of the most benefit. Most commonly people use crystals as home décor and companies such as Brightside Interior can advise you on what looks good where.  Some people pop crystals in their suit pocket, on their desks, in their briefcase or laptop bag, on bedside tables, wear them in necklaces and even in their bras. Some people meditate and focus on their crystals as well.

Which Crystal Should I Use?

Which crystal depends on what you are trying to achieve. Amethyst is great for stress relief, anti-anxiety and bringing balance; rose quartz for finding love and opening up your heart, black tourmaline for dispelling bad vibes and energy; citrine for success, making money and turning dreams into reality; apophyllite for healing. You might want to use a collection of crystals to attack things from all angles. For example, have a look at which crystals we have for anxiety and fertility

So do healing crystals work? There’s only one way for you to truly know…try and see. This ancient art of healing and energy generation has been around for thousands of years, so you’ll be following in the footsteps of many others who swear by it.
